Commissions

I create handmade ceramics from my studio on Vancouver Island. Commissions are a wonderful opportunity to collaborate on something tailored to your needs - whether that's a special piece for your table, a meaningful gift, custom tableware for your business, or a work of art for your space.

your Commission Questions Answered

  • Each month I open a limited number of commission spots to ensure every piece receives the time and care it deserves. Once the quote is accepted and deposit received, the work begins at the start of the following month. This allows me to give your piece my full attention from the very beginning.

Here's the step by step process:

    1. Fill out the commission inquiry form with as much detail as possible about what you're envisioning

    2. I'll respond within two business days, and if needed, we'll arrange a quick call to chat about your vision and make sure we're the perfect fit

    3. If I'm able to bring your idea to life and we decide to move forward, I’ll send over a quote outlining the design details, pricing, and timeline

    4. Once you approve the quote, a deposit is required to secure your spot and get things started

    5. I'll keep you updated with progress along the way so you can watch your piece come to life

    6. When your piece is complete, the remaining balance is due before shipment — then I'll carefully package everything for either local pickup or shipping right to your door

  • Commission pricing varies by piece. Detailed estimates can be found below, which account for materials (clay, glaze, etc.), design time, labor, firing, and packaging. Volume discounts are available for larger orders. Shipping costs are additional and will be quoted based on your location.

  • Lead time for commissioned work is typically 4-6 weeks from order confirmation, depending on the size and complexity of your piece. Because ceramics is a handmade process influenced by factors like humidity, kiln firing schedules, and unforeseen technical issues, some orders may occasionally need additional time. Rest assured, I'll keep you informed if your timeline needs adjustment.

If a rush order is required, please reach out and we can determine if that is possible. Rush fee would apply.

  • Yes! I am just as excited as you are. I’ll reach out with progress pictures throughout the making process if that is something you would like.

  • Yes, a 50% deposit is required before work will begin on the piece(s). The balance is owed upon completion of order prior to shipping.

  • I'd love to understand your vision and what you're hoping for! That said, pottery doesn't lend itself to the kind of customization you might find in painting, where colour options are endless. Each glaze I use must be rigorously tested to determine its final colour, finish, and whether it's food-safe - meaning custom glazes aren't practical. As I mix my own glazes, colours and finishes need to be selected from my current glaze catalog, which is always expanding. I'm happy to share the full collection when we connect so we can find the perfect fit for your piece.

If glaze/ clay body customization is feasible, there will be an additional charge for testing efforts.

  • My functional pottery is designed to be food-safe, microwave-safe, and dishwasher-safe. If you're commissioning a decorative piece where I might use different glazes or techniques, I'll make sure to let you know how that affects its care and use.

  • Every piece I create is made by hand, which means natural variation is part of the process and the charm. You may notice slight differences in size, form, and glaze appearance - colours can shift subtly depending on where the piece sits in the kiln, and handmade dimensions may vary slightly from the original design. These quirks are what make ceramics special and your piece uniquely yours.

  • While I'd love to work with everyone, I accept commissions that align with my skillset, style, and values. I'm happy to be adventurous and try new things, but ultimately it's at my discretion to ensure I can deliver quality work that we're both proud of. As a solo maker with finite time, I also need to be thoughtful about which projects I take on to give each commission the attention it deserves.

  • I'm happy to ship to wherever you are in the world! Shipping costs are added upon completion of the piece(s) based on your location. Please be aware that international orders may be subject to customs fees or import duties — these are outside my control and are the buyer's responsibility.
